Texas Agriculture:

The second largest U.S. state has more farms and ranches than any other in the United States. The primary crops in Texas are cotton, corn, feed grains (sorghum, milo, etc.), rice and wheat. However, there is an abundance of other crops, too, like peanuts, sunflowers, sugarcane vegetables and citrus.

 

Air Transportation:

Houston offers two airports within 23 miles of Commodity Classic hotels and is serviced by several carriers with daily non-stop and connecting flights from your home airport.

 

  • William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) – approximately 7 miles south of Downtown Houston
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) – approximately 23 miles north of Downtown Houston

Campgrounds:

Bringing your camper or recreational vehicle to Houston for Commodity Classic? There are several campgrounds and RV parks within driving distance of the Orange County Convention Center.

Ground Transportation

 

Taxis: 

The City of Houston has authorized a flat taxi fare of $6 for all trips in the downtown area. This $6 fare will apply anywhere within the Central Business District, bounded by Interstate 45, Interstate 10 and U.S. 59. No surcharges will apply to the fare, which can accommodate multiple riders under the $6 total rate. 

 

Estimated one-way taxi cab fares to most Commodity Classic hotels from area airports:
 

  • William P. Hobby Airport: approximately $31 to downtown; approximately $48 to Galleria area. Senior citizens are eligible for a 10% discount. A surcharge of $1.25 applies for a departure fee, and an additional surcharge of $1.00 applies for late-night trips between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
    • Pick up: Curb Zone 2 outside of Baggage Claim/Arrivals; follow signs marked “Ground Transportation” and exit where marked “Taxis”
  • George Bush Airport: approximately $58 to downtown; approximately $71 to Galleria area. Senior citizens are eligible for a 10% discount. A surcharge of $2.75 applies for a departure fee, and an additional surcharge of $1.00 applies for late-night trips between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
    • Pick up: Outside Baggage Claim/Arrivals, Terminal A (southside, door A-115), Terminal B (southside, door B-103), Terminal C (southside, door C-106), Terminal E (southside, door E-103B); follow signs to “Ground Transportation” and exit where marked “Taxis”

Rideshare:

Houston offers rideshare services from Uber and Lyft. Passengers can make a request once they are on the terminal curb. Always confirm that you are getting in the correct vehicle with the designated driver displayed in your mobile app.

 

  •  William P. Hobby Airport pick up: Curb Zone 5 outside of Baggage Claim/Arrivals (exit through door nearest Baggage Claim Carousel #4 and follow signs marked “Ride App”)
  • George Bush Airport pick up: Outside of Baggage Claim/Arrivals, Terminal A (southside, door A-114), Terminal B (southside, door B-103), Terminal C (southside, door C-106), Terminal E (southside, door E-103B); follow signs to “Ride App Pick-Up” and exit through the doors marked “Taxis” in Terminal B and those marked “Passenger Pick-Up” in Terminal E. Pick up areas are designated by “Ride App” signs.

 

Rental Cars: 

There are several companies to choose from when renting a car in Houston.

 

  • William P. Hobby Airport: Curb Zone 1 outside of Baggage Claim/Arrivals (look for “Rental Car Shuttles” signs)
  • George Bush Airport: Shuttles depart every five minutes from the outside Baggage Claim/Arrivals, Terminal A, B, and C between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm and every ten minutes between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am. Terminal D rental car shuttle pickup is available until 9:00 pm; after 9:00 pm proceed to Terminal C. Shuttles depart from: Terminal A (southside, Door A-115),  Terminal B (southside, B-103), Terminal C (southside, Door C-105),  Terminal D (west curb);  follow signs to “Ground Transportation.” Exits are marked with “Rental Car” signs. Look for blue and white buses marked “Rental Car Shuttle.”

 

Getting Around Town

 

Hotel Shuttles:

Commodity Classic will run complimentary hotel shuttle transportation between the Convention Center and most Commodity Classic hotels. Check out the signs in the lobby of your hotel for your shuttle schedule. Shuttles will arrive and depart from the South Parking Garage at the Convention Center, 2nd Floor.

 

Convention Center Parking:

For attendees who plan on driving, the George R. Brown Convention Center operates on-site vehicle parking. Parking rates vary upon entry time. Parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Avenida North Garage:

        701 Avenida de las Americas (entrances on Rusk and Capitol)

        1,846 parking spaces

        Clearance: 7 ft.

        Located at Partnership Tower; connected to the convention center and Marriott Marquis Hotel via skybridge

 

Avenida South Garage:

        1710 Polk Street

        1,459 parking spaces

        Clearance: 6 ft. 8”

        Connected to Hilton Americas Hotel and convention center via skybridge

        Day rates until 5pm is a max of $10

        New billing cycle begins at 2am.

        Note: Convention Center parking rates are subject to change at any time. Commodity Classic does

        not guarantee current rates. Parking is not included in the Commodity Classic registration fee.

 

Tours:

Commodity Classic is arranging for several tours of unique destinations in the Houston area. Tours are an additional fee and are not included in the Commodity Classic registration fee.

 

Weather:

Houston’s temperate climate allows visitors and enviable outdoor lifestyle. With an average late-February/early-March temperature in the low 70’s, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the weather.

 

Commodity Classic Registration Desk:

The Registration Desk will be located on the 2nd floor of the George R. Brown Convention Center. Stop by the Commodity Classic registration area to pick up your badge and rodeo tickets (if you purchased them during  online registration). If you have questions, the registration staff will be happy to assist.
